"Dubai's Largest PPP Waste-to-Energy Facility Sets a New Standard for Green Financing"
BESIX and its partners have successfully undertaken the construction of one of the world's largest waste-to-energy plants in Dubai. This groundbreaking facility, developed under a BOOT (Build-Operate-Own-Transfer) contract, will process 1.9 million tonnes of municipal waste annually and generate approximately 200 MW of renewable electricity.
In a remarkable milestone, Dubai Waste Management Company P.S.C., composed of BESIX, Tech Group, Hitachi Zosen Inova, ITOCHU Corporation, DUBAL Holding LLC, and Dubai Holding Commercial Operations Group LLC, secured a long-term project finance loan amounting to 900 million USD. The financing was facilitated by Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and private financial institutions, including Société Générale Bank, KfW IPEX Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Mizuho Bank, Ltd., Siemens Bank, and Crédit Agricole Bank. Notably, Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) will provide insurance coverage for a portion of the loan.
